First Aid Friday - Shock

6 Mar by Rosalind Elliott

Shock is a life-threatening condition which manifests when there is insufficient oxygen supply to the tissues. Initially adrenaline is released; this increases the heart rate and constricts the blood vessels raising the blood pressure. If the situation is not reversed blood flow to the vital organs (heart, brain, lungs and kidneys) may be insufficient and they may die. It is vital to identify shock early and transfer the person to hospital for definitive treatment. Remember: “Could it be sepsis?”. Hope you find this useful.
