Warning! Weever fish injury at DY beach

22 Feb by Rosalind Elliott

We treated a young man for a deep cut on his ankle (deep enough for a suture) caused by suspected a weever fish barb today. According to the life guard the weever fish are quite common in the shallows here.
As with many marine "stings" the usual treatment is immersion in hot water as hot as the person can bare but on this occasion we couldn't immerse his foot in hot water because of the cut ws too deep so after cleaning and dressing it we applied an "ice" pack and sent him off to hospital with his friends for sutures.
